I also contacted Dell about this issue, and received the following reply:
'Hello Alan;
Thank you for contacting Dell Enterprise eSupport Services; my name is
Johnny and I will be assisting you with this issue.
I understand that you have an issue when trying to install Windows NT 4.0 on
your PowerEdge SC420 server.
This system has not been validated for Windows NT 4.0. So far as I know the
drivers are not available.

Since there is no NT40 device driver available for the server, is there
another migration path that I could take or do I need to do a clean install?
