I have a single NT 4.0 domain with an old IBM Netfinity PDC (NT4), and
6 Win2000 member servers. We have a Dell PE 2650 server to replace the
existing NT4 PDC server for the 2003 migration. After the 2003 domain
is up & running I need to also use the old PDC NT4 box as a file
server as its simply too complicated to recreate. 60 users are on XP
Pro, 2 on Win98, 1 on 2000 Pro & as stated above 6 x 2000 servers. If
possible I want to setup the 2003 server, then migrate all users
accounts & passwords from the NT4PDC, so I dont have to go to every PC
& reconfigure. The current domain is called "DOMAIN203", can I somehow
keep that domain name in 2003?
I also would like to stay away from the "install NT4 on the Dell PE
2650 then upgrade to 2003" option as the Dell server does not support
NT4. If anyone could offer step by step details I would very much
appreciate your expertise, to help me avoid the pitfalls.
To recap, my goal is to have a Win2003 AD domain with 6 2000 members
servers, 1 NT4 filserver (Ex PDC)& the clients (as above) able to log
on as normal with there desktop XP profiles
I have read any posts and whitepapers detailing step by step
procedures for this but just wanted some expert advice from those who
have achieved this.
Kind regards
G
