We have introduced a Windows 2003 Server into our NT4 domain to replace a
really old server. Everythying seems fines with the exception of a couple of
oddities.

1. We had a share on the old server, the contents were copied from old
server to new server and reshared on the new server. The sharing perms are
the default everybody everything. When non admins try to open a file from
the share over the network they are told the file is read only. I have
checked the properties and it is not. I have unset the read attribute from
the owning folder down and stil the same. If same user creates a file in the
same area they can do what the like with it,
read/write/delete/update/rename. Giving a local group full control of a
folder and adding individual domain users to it gets around the problem. But
why does it happen? The files were copied by the Windows 2003 console from
the remote share to the local file system.

2. To get around the above I have created a local group and can add
individual users from the domain to it, but cannot add domain groups to the
local group. When attempted explorer dies and restarts.

Many Thanks
Bob
