Hello,

Good to hear from you.

According to your scenario, both robocopy and FSMT can achieve your goal to
migrate from the NT file server to the win2k3 computer in a workgroup. As
your main concern is FSMT, I will give more details about it.

Regarding FSMT, to preserve the UNC, please change the computer name of
win2k3 after the files have been migrated. Follow the steps below to
achieve your goal.

1. Migrating files using FSMT

Please note: FSMT will append the source file server name to the target
share name. For example, let us name the NT file server NTFServer, the
share folder name is Resource, and the target share name is C:\. Then after
the migration, the target share of Resource will be found in
C:\NTFserver\Resource. This behavior is designed by default and the source
file server name is appended to prevent name conflicts. You can change the
target share name manually if you are migrating a small number of shared
folders. Otherwise, you can change the .xml file as addressed in the
following article, in the snippet "Q: In the File Server Migration Wizard,
why is the source file server name appended to the target share name and
how do I change this?"

2. Changing the computer name

1)Right click "My Computer" icon in the desktop and select properties.

2)Select Computer Name in the System Properties tab.

3)Click "change" button to change the name of the computer.

4)Type the new computer's name in the text box under "Computer Name" and
click OK.
You are required to use the authenticated user account to complete the task.

5)Restart the computer.

Hope this helps. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to get
in touch!

Best regards,

Frances He
