Hello,
During a staged migration, you can offer file and print services that are
available on a Windows Server 2003 server to NetWare clients by installing
File and Print Services for NetWare (FPNW) on the Windows Server 2003
server. FPNW is available on the same Services for NetWare CD-ROM that
contains MSDSS and File Migration Utility.
File and Print Services for NetWare version 5 (FPNW5) is a back-end service
that allows a Windows 2000 Server to emulate a NetWare 3.12 compatible file
and print server. FPNW5 usage is transparent to other NetWare resources
including clients. FPNW5 allows a Windows 2000 Server to take on some of
NetWare's file and print services, as well as serve as an applications
platform.
It is important to note that the bindery, emulated by FPNW5, is
authenticating a client logging onto a server running FPNW5. From a
security perspective, the only commonality between Windows 2000 domain
security and FPNW is that they share the same list of user accounts.
FPNW5 is an excellent tool to use during migration periods or when file and
print services need to be offered to NetWare clients from a Windows 2000
Server. For migration purposes, it is possible to completely spoof an
existing NetWare server after retirement and have the Windows 2000 Server
running FPNW appear to be the retired NetWare Server.
