Hi Tony,

Thanks for your posting here.

What is the role of the web server in you domain? If it is just member
server, then nothing need to change after you upgrade to Windows 2003.

In general, we need to upgrade PDC first and it will prompt you to install
internal DNS service on the new Domain Controller. You can point all the
DCs and clients to the same interal DNS and configure a forwarder to your
ISP's DNS servers on the internal DNS server.

Please refer to the following documents for more information:

Windows 2003 includes Internet Connection Firewall, but it will not cause
any problem in general.

      Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windows.server.migration

I am in the research phase of a NT4 to 2003 migration for my
employer. We
have 3 servers we want to upgrade, 1 web server, 1 PDC, and 1 BDC.
I have
been reading a lot of how to's and white papers but they are all very
generic. Can anyone help with some basic questions?

1.) Our web server physically resides in our building but is
connected to an
entirely different network which is controlled by the university (who
we use
for internet access as well as our DNS server). What do I need to
consider as
far as DNS setup after we upgrade to 2003 on this web server. From
what I
have read this machine will be fairly easy to upgrade as it wont
require
Active Directory or DNS to be hosted on it. I have heard that we can
use DNS
fowarding to avoid using this box as a DNS server. Also, whats the
deal with
2003 closing all ports by default. Will this be a nightmare trying
to
establish what ports we do and dont use. Are there any white papers
or KBs
      on these topics?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
