Hi Khimji,

So now there are two domains, one is win2k, other is NT. You want to
install win2k3 and join it to win2k domain, install ADMT on win2k3 and
migrate users/computer accounts etc from NT to win2k3 server. Is it correct?

If so, there are two phrases:
Phrase 1: Introuduce a win2k3 server into win2k domain
==========================
Please refer to the following articles to archive this goal:
1. Run Adprep /forestprep, Adprep /domainprep on win2k server.
2. Install win2k3 on your new machine and join it to the win2k
domain.
3. Promote win2k3 to be a backup DC. This process will replicate
user/computer accounts from 2k to 2k3.
4. Install AD-integrated DNS on 2k3, this process will auto
replicate DNS from 2k to 2k3.

5. Move Global Catalog
6. Switch FSMO Roles to new server.

What do I need to do to prepare my Windows 2000 forest for the installation
of the first Windows Server 2003 DC?

Phrase 2: Use ADMT to migrate accounts
===========================
Refer to the following article to migrate NT to win2k3:
Migrating Windows NT Server 4.0 Domains to Windows Server 2003 Active
Directory
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/whyupgrade/nt4/nt4domt
oad.mspx

If your scenario is not this case, win2k server and NT server now in a same
domain. You only need to use phrase two. :)
The workstations will not be affected.

In any event, the domain function level on win2k3 server should be Windows
2000 Native Mode since there is win2k server exists and ADMT need this
function level.

Any update, let us get in touch!

Rebecca Chen
