Hi John,

It sounds good! I would like to modify the steps so that you don't need to
migrate to win2k3:

1. I am introducing another BDC and call this as BDC02 onto the existing
environment which has BDC01 already in place and let us say the PDC name is
BINGO. Now, what if I pull out the current BDC01 from the existing
environment after synching the PDC with BDC02.

2. I rebuild the BDC01 which was taken off the network by adding additional
hard disk and memory and create a RAID 5 and fresh install of Win2K3
DCPROMO this server. The name of the new DC is going to be BINGODC01. Now,

Here, I suggest you don't install win2k3 directly, install NT BDC instead.
After you install NT on this server, you can use the following upgrade
process:
 - Promote a Windows NT 4.0 BDC to the PDC, which demotes the PDC to
a BDC.
- Do a full backup of the former PDC and remove it from the network.
- Upgrade the new PDC to Windows Server 2003.
- Use the Windows Server 2003 Active Directory wizard to turn on the
Active Directory service. The Active Directory service imports the existing
user accounts, groups, and other settings from the PDC.
- Run your new Windows Server 2003 domain controller with Active
Directory for a test period.
- If desired you can do a clean installation of Windows Server 2003
on the former PDC, and bring it online as an Active Directory domain
controller.
- Transfer all Flexible Single-Master Operation (FSMO) roles to the
new Windows Server 2003 domain controller.
- Verify all directory information has replicated.
- Demote the first domain

You can avoid migration and keep the original domain name if you use
upgrade process.

You can take a look at the following link:
