Hi Matt,

After viewing the ADPrep.log that your sent, I cannot see that original
error that you have mentioned in the first post.

Here are some things to consider:

1) The commands, adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep, need to be run
from the Schema Master. Please double check if you have fun this command
on the Schema Master, not the backup DC.

2) Please use ADSI Edit to view Windows2003Update object: (Adsi Edit is in
Win2k3 support tools folder)

There are two different locations that the object may be written, depending
on the command issued:

a) Verify that adprep /forestprep completed successfully with the ADSI Edit
tool (Support Tools):

"CN=Windows2003Update" object is written under:

     CN=ForestUpdates,CN=Configuration,DC=yourdomain,DC=com.

(Optional) The schema version incremented to version 30. To do so, see the
"ObjectVersion" attribute under:

     CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC==yourdomain,DC=com.

b ) Verify that adprep /domainprep completed successfully with the ADSI
Edit tool (Support Tools):
"CN=Windows2003Update" object is written under:

     CN=DomainUpdates,CN=System,DC==yourdomain,DC=com

Please refer to step # 6 in the following KB article:

325379 How to upgrade Windows 2000 domain controllers to Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325379

3) You might try transferring all of the roles to one Windows 2003
Controller ( then run the Adprep commands from there)

"255690 HOW TO: View and Transfer FSMO Roles in the Graphical User Interface
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=255690

after you transfer the 5 FSMO roles to the new W2K 3 DC successfully,
please use netdom command to query FSMO on the new W2K3 DC to make sure the
transfer process has been completely successfully.

HTH!

Further questions, let us get in touch.

Have a nice weekend!

Best regards,

Rebecca Chen
