You must be running Dcpromo because simply joining a machine to a domain
does not remove the local accounts like you are saying. If you do make this
a Domain Controller than yes it will remove the local accounts because DC's
do not have local accounts, only domain accounts. I just did this to a
machine of mine and none of my local users or permissions were changed by
simply 'joining' a domain. You had me double guessing myself :) If you run
Dcpromo, which I don't think you want to do, this will remove your users
just it tells you. All you should have to do is go to Properties of My
Computer and then Computer Name tab, clieck on Change and then put in the
domain name that you want to join to. This should be all you have to do and
your local accounts will remain.
