Hi Jason,

Thank you for posting!

The below are my answers to your questions.

| First off, I have my domain called xxx. When I start the upgrade process
on
| the PDC, it goes through rather smothly in my tests. After the upgrade, a
AD
| wizard screen appears to put my domain xxx into AD. I immediately cancel
this
| screen and configure DNS first on the computer. Is this process correct
or
| would it be better to configure DNS through the AD wizard?

In my opinion, you do not need to cancel Active Directory wizard screen and
configure DNS first. It will be better to configure DNS through the AD
wizard.

| Second questions, I would like to rename the domain from xxx to
intxxx.com
| (int - meaning internal). Does anybody see any problems with this? From
what
| I have read lately, most people are not naming there DNS domain names to
| there external domain name space.

The NetBIOS name of intxxx.com should be intxxxx. So all clients might need
to rejoin the domain.

| Thrird question:
| After configuring my DNS, then I I go through DCPROMO and let AD wizard
put
| my domain into AD. My question is, when should I add my static servers,
which
| some are still on NT 4.0? Should I add my A records before I start the
Wizard
| or afterwards?

Based on my experience, it will be better to add the A records after the
promption.

| Fourth Question:
| I am sorry......this will be my last question. On DNS my new domain name
is
| now intxxx.com. When I add my A records for my static IP addressed
servers
| they appear as server.intxxx.com as the A record name along with the
Pointer
| record. Is this ok espically for my older 4.0 servers?

Yes, the FQDN for the server will be like server.intxxx.com. However, their
NetBIOS name should be server, unless it is conflicted with others.
Personally, I think it should be okay with your older Windows NT servers.

Have a nice day!
