Hi,

Thank you for posting!

Based on my research, some input device manufacturers may add filter
drivers into the system to extend their devices functions. If the filter
drivers are not compatible with later operating systems, these filter
drivers may block the keyboard/mouse from working normally after the system
upgrade. We have encountered similar issues before and have already
published an online document:

256233 No Keyboard or Mouse After Installing Logitech 9.0 Mouseware Drivers
on
<http://support.microsoft.com/?id=256233>

According to the above document, we can resolve this kind of problem by
restoring the keyboard/mouse "UpperFilters" entries to their default values
(Kbdclass and
Mouclass) after the upgrade. We can use two methods to access the
problematic system's registry even if there is no keyboard/mouse. For more
information, please
refer to the article.

In order to resolve the problem by taking prevention before the upgrade, we
can try the following methods:

Solutions:

Important Note: To resolve the problem in the safest way, please test the
solutions on your test server first. If they work well, we can then safely
perform the solution on the working server.

Adjust the related registry entries and uninstall the third-party
keyboard/mouse software before the upgrade.
------------------------
1. On the test server running Windows NT 4.0, please open the registry and
browse to the keyboard class key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11
CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

2. If there is an "UpperFilters" entry existing under this key, please
change its value from the current one (no matter what it is) to "kbdclass"
(without the quotation marks). If there is no such entry, please ignore
this step.

3. Browse to the mouse class key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11
CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

4. If there is an "UpperFilters" entry existing under this key, please
change its value from the current one (no matter what it is) to "mouclass"
(without the quotation marks). If there is no such entry, please ignore
this step.

5. If you have installed any keyboard/mouse driver before, please uninstall
them one by one.

6. Then try to upgrade the system to Windows 2000 systems to see if
everything works successfully.

Have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards,

| I am trying to upgrade a Windows NT 4 PDC to Windows Server 2003. The
| upgrade completes, but there is no mouse or keyboard. I have tried
different
| mice and keyboards. This also happens if I upgrade to Windows 2000
Server.
| The server is:
|
| IBM Netfinity 7100
| Standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse
| Hardware RAID 5 array
|
| The server also functions as a WINS server, a DHCP server, and a File
| server, so an in place upgrade is the better option for me. Thanks for
any
| help.
