I think you mis-read. I stated that this new BDC will be promoted to
PDC, then upgraded. The upgrade is not the issue.
The issue, in a nutshell, is what are the effects of having a NT4.0
DNS server as the DNS for clients when the domain is going to 2003.
This state will be temporary and I will be taking the existing DNS
server's IP address and giving it to a 2003 DC/DNS server (on a
secondary interface).

In the meantime, will all clients function on the domain properly?
