Good point. I looked through a lot of books and did not
find anything that gave good detailed info on how the
NetBIOS and DNS names would work. For those of you who
don't know, you can leave the NetBIOS name as is - clients
will still be able to refer to the domain by that name.
You then chose your own AD DNS name. For example, my
company's NT domain is PCA. There were a few options, but
what we ended up agreeing upon for our AD DNS name was
pca.external-DNSname.com. "external-DNSname" is our
company's registered Internet domain name. It's best
practice to have your NetBIOS name be part of the DNS
name, but I guess in cases where the NetBIOS name has
invalid characters, you'd have to adjust the DNS name
accordingly.
