Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

This issue occurred because during the upgrade to Windows 2003, you renamed
the desired DNS (FQDN) name, but the NetBIOS domain name remains the same.

For more information you may browse the following web site:
How to Rename the DNS Name of a Windows 2000 Domain
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=292541

There is no way to rename a Netbios domain name automatically during
upgrade, however you may clean install a new Windows Server 2003 and
migrate all the components to the new Server using ADMT utility. In the new
domain the Netbios name and DNS name are same.

For more information you may browse the following web sites:
HOW TO: Set Up ADMT for Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 Migration
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;260871

How to Use Active Directory Migration Tool Version 2 to Migrate from
Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326480

I hope the information I have provided you with proves helpful!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to let me know. I am glad
to be of assistance.
Thanks and regards,
Alex Zhang

| By the way, is there a way to automate the domain membership change on
the clients as the last part of the Windows 2003 upgrade since we are
changing the domain name from CHIS to ADAPTISNET.MAIN? we have about 350
desktops.
Thanks again.
