Hello Rob,

Thank you for posting here.

I think that the plan is feasible. There are two methods to upgrade the
domain from NT4 to Windows Server 2003. One is in-place upgrade, the other
is migration. You could use ADMT utility to migrate users, groups, and
computers from one domain to another, and analyze the migration affect
before and after the actual migration process.

| We are upgrading our domain from NT4 to 2003, in the process we will
| be changing our domain name. I figured that the easiest way to do
| this would be to setup our new server as the domain controller for the
| 2K3 domain, with the new name. Create a trust between the two
| domains, and then run ADMT. Does this sound feasible? I figured that
| this would allow normal business operations while performing the
| upgrade/adding client machines to the new domain.
|
| Also, does Microsoft have any articles available for domain upgrades
| that are not considered in place? Everything I have seen so far has
| dealt with in place upgrades.
|
| Thanks for the help,
| Rob
