Hello,
Thank you for posting here.
I have suggestions for you:
Suggestion One: Windows File Checker utility (SFC)
1. Click Start -> run -> type sfc /scannow-> Return
2. After the SFC utility checkes your system, you should reinstall all
hotfixes and security updates.
Some related information:
Description of the Windows 2000 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;222471
The SFC /SCANNOW Command May Overwrite Hotfix Files
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814510
Suggestion Two: Clean boot
A Clean Boot will allow us to isolate any device drivers or programs that
are loading at startup that may be causing a conflict with other device
drivers or programs that are installed in your computer.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open text box, type MSCONFIG then click OK.
3. On the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab and
click the "Disable All" button to remove the checkmarks from each line in
the list.
4. Then, click the Services tab, add a checkmark to the "Hide All Microsoft
Services" item then click "Disable All".
Note: This disables all third party service items.
5. Click the OK button and restart your computer when you are prompted.
If the issue is resolved, it means the faulty item is among non-Microsoft
services or Startup items.
Suggestion Three:
You may boot computer to safe mode and disable other devices to check if
the issue occur.
Suggestion Four:
You may unplug all the other devices from the computer except the hard
drive, display card. For example floppy disk, sound card, other USB
devicesĄ, and check if the issue still occur.
I hope the information proves helpful!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to let me know. I am glad
to be of assistance.
Thanks and regards,
Alex Zhang

| I had posted this along with another recent issue but it hasn't been
addressed yet, hence this posting.
I've upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 server. Doing "Properties"
on any removal media (including the standard floppy disk) will instantly
freeze my mouse and machine. I've scoured all the online resources about
this and done most everything in my power:
- Re-installed Norton Anti-virus
- Updated all my hardware drivers to 2003 compliance
- Examined the event viewer for anything strange
The system is running fine and there are no hardware problems nor hardware
conflicts. Norton Utilities will show all information about all hardware
properly without a lockup.
There will be no lockup in Safe Mode which points a finger at a driver. Yet
all the basic hardware drivers run ok and are compliant. Also, it's strange
that the Properties for the floppy drive will cause a lock-up too, so it's
some more global problem.
What I need to find out is what the "Properties" code is doing when I click
on any drive. I would like to find out which registry entries it examples
so that I can determine what software and drivers are being executed in the
back end. That would give me some information as to where to look for a
problem.
Thanks.
