I have an old file server that had about 50GB of data on
it as of last night. Today it has about 20GB left. the
reason it has ANY data left is because my file transfers
kept failing out. I've gotten all kinds of error messages
from not being able to find the path, to duplicate names,
you name it and I've scene it. I tried several different
methods to over come these issues:
*I've unshared the folder I'm trying to transfer from.
*I've unshared the hidden drive(D$) it resides on.
*I've put both machine on the same switch.
*I've locked the auto negioiate down to 10MBps full for
the older machine as it's NIC seems to have trouble with
100full and autopneg. The new sever can autoneg to
gigaspeed, no issue.
*I've tried cat 5 and cat 5e crossover cables to do a
machine to machine transfer. I locked both down to 10
full when I did this.
Speed isn't the issue, it's the failures when i try and
move the data. there's got to be a better way than drag
and drop. Please help me figure out a way to force this
data to transfer. Whether it has to break the user out
forcefully, or it has to fail on one file, but continues
on after that. Anything would be an improvement over what
I'm dealing with now. Drag and drop sucks and I'm jsut
pulling my hair out trying to move this data.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.
