Downgrade server to BDC?

I upgraded a new NT 4.0 PDC, with DHCP address, to Win 2000 and created a
new forest and tree. Unfortunately this then broke a trust to another
domain. In order to get the trust back I powered down the Win 2000 DC and
promoted one of my other NT 4.0 BDCs to PDC and recreated the failing trust.
The trust to the other domain passes through a router which filters on IP
address. We subsequently decided the reason the trust failed was because the
DHCP address of the Win 2000 DC was not specified in the router and thus the
emulation PDC could not talk to the other domain. I have powered up the Win
2000 DC and assigned it a fixed IP address which is also configured in the
router. The trust still seems to work
My problem is that the BDC that was promoted to PDC is still shown as PDC in
server manager and I don't know a way to downgrade it to BDC. I have tried
promoting the Win 2000 DC to be PDC in server manager but this generates an
error from server manager. I had sync'ed the domain and powered down a BDC
prior to carrying out the Win 2000 upgrade.
Will I have problem with the emulation PDC and the promoted BDC both
thinking they are the PDC? Should I upgrade the promoted BDC to Win 2000 to
get round the problem? Or should I wipe the Win 2000 DC, and associated AD,
power down the promoted BDC and power up the powered down BDC and make it
PDC and then start the upgrade on a new server?
