Hello,

Thank you for your post. My name is Joe Wu, and it is my pleasure to work
with you on this issue.

To efficiently address this issue, I would like to collect more information
for further analysis:

1. Please open the DNS Management Snip-in windows and locate the
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.abc.com record. Double-click it and capture a screen
shot. Please post it here.

2. Also post a screen shot of the error message during the DCPROMO process.

3. We have fixed a similar issue before where the DC's "Register This
Connections Addresses in DNS" check box was not select. Please also check
if this is the root cause there.

I look forward to your reply. Thanks and have a great day!

Regards,
Joe Wu

|I upgraded the NT4 PDC and installed AD & DNS. Everything seemed to be
running ok.

When I go to add a new DC is when I run into problems. The new DC is a
brand new clean install of W2k3. It joined the domain just fine and I can
browse the domain. After applying latest patches I tried running dcpromo.
I select add a new DC to an existing domain and then put in the admin and
domain credentials. I get an error message that says "An Active Directory
domain controller for abc.com domain could not be contacted". The detail
of the message is:
DNS Successfully queried SRV resource record to locate a DC for domain
abc.com
The query was for the SRV record _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.abc.com
The following DC's were Identified: migration.abc.com
Then it says this could be caused by A records misconfigured or the DC
being disconnected from the domain.

Using NSLOOOKUP I verified that the new DC can access all of the
appropriate SRV records. I have the IP of the first DC as the preferred
DNS server.

Any help is appreciated.
