Hello,
Thank you for your post.
Could you let me know more information regarding this issue?
1. Please send me the %SystemRoot%\Debug\Dcpromo.log file from the
problematic Windows 2000 machine that you want to promote.
2. Screen shots of all the errors.
3. Please download the MPS_Report utility from the following link:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_DirSvc.EXE
This tool only collects some very useful directory service information,
such as the Event logs and network configurations.
Please click on it to run it. Usually, it will take about 5~15 minutes to
collect the relevant information. When it has finished, a window containing
the resulting (.cab) files will pop up. The cab files can also be found at
"%systemroot%\MPSReports\DirSvc\Logs\cab".
More information regarding this tool can be found at the following link:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7
-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en
Please run the utility on both the Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000
systems, and send the cab file to me at joewu@microsoft.com.
I will do my best to analyze the information upon receiving it.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. I am standing by to help you.
Regards,
Joe Wu

|We recently placed 2003 servers in our network. The original setup was
|2000, but very poorly done. AD was completely shot and there was no
|way to repair or mend the way it was built. We decided to put in 2003
|servers and build the AD correctly. We succesfully achieved that....
|
|question...
|I am trying to dcpromo a 2000 server in the 2003 domain. I continue to
|get the same error during the process. It cannot replicate the
|directory. "an error has occurred with no definition". Really helpful
|info... anyway... I received this same error on two different 2000
|server machines in an attempt to promo. The reason for the promo is to
|utilize the 2000 Terminal Server licensing, but I need a 2000 DC to
|perform this without the additional expenses 2003 TS introduces.
|
|Is there a known issue with promoting 2000 server in a 2003
|environment and if so what are the remedies?
|
|apologize for multiple posts, but want to be certain it gets the right
|place.
|
|Thanks for any input.
