Thank you again.

Somehow the LAN settings had been changed back to having
"Automatically detect settings" checked. Once I unchecked this again,
the activation worked perfectly.

Regards,

Don't care about Vista, 2008 has the same code so it should work
also.

I seem to have been a bit premature with my response. This worked
perfectly on one of these servers. On the other server, however, I
am now receiving a different error after changing the key and trying
to activate Windows. I now get an error code of 0x80072F8F. The
description of this code is simply, "A security error occurred." Do
you know what the problem could be with this server?

Thank you very much.

Hello Logan,

For 2008 you will not be asked during installation, open the system
properties and scroll down to Windows activation "Change product
key", here enter the MAK key.

I downloaded Windows 2008 with SP2 from the Microsoft volume
licensing site and installed it on 2 VMWare virtual servers. I
have a MAK product key for it, but I was never prompted for a
product key during installation.

It appears to have installed as a KMS client, and I cannot
activate it. When I run Windows Activation and try to activate
online, I get this error message: "A problem occurred when Windows
tried to activate. Error code 0xC004F038." The description of
the error says that the count reported by my KMS is insufficient.
This is reasonable since I don't use KMS.

How can I get the MAK key installed into these installations of
Windows? I saw a lot of references to "msoobe.exe", but nothing
happens when I try to run it on these servers.

Thank you very much for your help.
