Re: Windows Server 2008 Memory Questions

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Dusto,

Thanks for your replies, as well as your reply to my other post. What i've
done is this:

(1) I did do some counters. One of the counters I was running (I think it
was teh read/sec memory counter) was reporting high activity over an 8 hour
period of monitoring.
(2) I increased the memory to 10GIG and set a custom paging file for 15GIG
(1x1.5)
* Still not joy though. The memory utilization is running in the high 90's.
I'm not sure if this is a problem though. I don't have any reports of any
slow response issues from our outlook users. I've also read some articles
that report this is by design and that Exchange2007 will handle as much
memory as it can take and utilize the caching features.

*I'll continue to see if I can find anything.

Thanks for your help

You need to set up performance counters and logs.
You need to collect data over a longer period (week or two at least) at
various intervals (mornings, business hours, off peak hours, during backup).
This is called "establishing a baseline".
After you establish a baseline, you need to analyze the data and see the
trends and any unusual peaks, bottlenecks etc.
The Microsoft Technet is a great resource, but you may wish to post your
question in the Exchange group too.

Good luck

Hi All,

We have a Windows Standard 2008 Server/SP2 (Virtual Server/VMWARE) with
8GIG
of RAM set. We have Exchange2007 installed on this server. There are 3
logical drives (RAID 50 Drives On A SAN) c=system partition, d=store,
e=transaction logs. We have the paging file on the C drive and it is set
to
be managed by the system (set for 8.5GIG).

We have had some outlook users complain about slow response time (not
frequently, but occasionally) when opening outlook. When I checked the
peformance of the Windows2008 server I notice the memory counter from task
manager is showing near the top (88% memory used). I notice the store.exe
(The Exchange2007 store) is using 5.5GIG. I assume this is normal?
Should I
be doing anything with the paging file such as moving this to a different
drive?

Any thoughts or links would be great. Perhaps this is the normal way
Windows2008/Exchange2007 manages memory?

Thanks

.
