Hello Meinolf,
Check out this ones about adding drivers:

2008 R2 is needed for this:

Hello Greg,
There is no limitation on the amount of DCs in a SBS domain, only the
SBS itself must be the FSMO roles holder. If the 2008 DC does not work
"correct" some more infos about what was not working could be helpful.
You have to upgrade the schema on the SBS for 2008, if you like to
have a 2008 DC in the domain.
What exact do you mean with "unresponsive"?
WDS can be installed on a 2008 member server, also check this:

Sorry but point 4 is not correct, you can have multiple DCs in a SBS
domain, they can also be GC BUT the FSMO must be on the SBS.

Greg O,
SBS has limitations. Some (not all) are:
1. SBS can only function in its own domain.
2. SBS cannot join other domain(s).
3. SBS cannot form trust relationship with another forest.
4. There can only be one domain controler in a SBS domain
However, you can have additional member server.
If your additional member server is Windows Server 2008, so much
the
better.
Windows Server 2008 WDS supports multicasting. I also experienced
problems
when WDS was on another subnet. In that case you need to configure
your
routers for that sort of traffic. It's best if you can set up a lab
on
its
own subnet. You just need one computer for a server,a LAN switch
and
some
ten clients for simultaneous deployment. In fact you don't need a
server at
all. You can set up your lab on a client OS (XP or Vista). If you
use
client
OS, you will be limited to ten simultaneous connections.
You can deploy Windows images using Microsoft's imaging
technologies
with and without WDS. If you have trouble deploying thru WDS, just
use
an ordinary file share on a server (or even a client computer). I
tested deployment thru a file share and it worked well for five
clients simultaneously.
As I'm writing this post, I'm testing (in a virtual machine
environment) a new MDT 2010 Beta 2. I suggest you do it yourself
too. I just completed the first part "Quick Start Guide for Lite
Touch Installation" and it works as advertised. It uses Windows 7
RC
(Build 7100) as a reference and target computer, but once you
complete it that way, it's no brainer to use the same steps for
Windows XP.
The new MDT 2010 Beta 2 is available on:
https://connect.microsoft.com/content/content.aspx?ContentID=12463&
S
it
eID=14
Good luck.

Greg O,Hi Dusko,
Your client is definitely not doing something correctly.
There are plenty of resources and 'Getting Started' walkthroughs
comming
with:
- Windows AIK
- MDT
- WDS
Just follow the steps and it works.
You can image as many computers at a time as you wish using WDS.
The
WDS feature (on Win Server 2008) you should use is multicasting.
BTW, there are two groups specialized for deployment and you
should
get a
better chance of finding a qualified answer there. The newsgroups
are:
microsoft.public.deployment.desktop
microsoft.public.deployment.server

Hi,- Show quoted text -
I have a client using WDS for the first time, and they say they
can only image 2 computers at a time. Is there a restriction like
this on WDS? Actually they are running it on SBS R2 but I assume
that is not an SBS related issue. Also they are saying that when
they capture an image it writes the image on the computer first
and then uploads it to the server which is ok. Then they say when
they image more computers the image written to them contains 2
images, the proper one which boots and the copy which was written
to the one being imaged prior to uploading it to the server. I
haven't checked the second issue, i.e. the 2 images, but is this
what happens and can this be avoided? For example maybe the image
on the WDS server can be edited to remove the second image.- Hide

I'll try the other newsgroups. The network has a 2008 server and a
2003 sbs r2 server. For some reason WDS wouldn't work on the 2008
server, I thought it may have something to do with using SBS as a
domain controller, maybe WDS doesn't support that. However it
worked fine when WDS was installed on the SBS server, but now there
is some issue with numbers of computers being imaged. Ideally I
could make 2008 server a domain controller as well, which might
allow WDS to be deployed on it. However I recall SBS didn't work
well with a second domain controller and it is forbidden to join
SBS to a forest, so I can't add it that way.
Is SBS with a second domain controller still a problem or is it not
ok, I saw some people doing this in a forum. I know I should be
asking this in the SBS forum, I'll do that next. The other
alternative is to set up the 2008 server on a separate subnet as a
domain controller and use WDS on that subnet, or perhaps make it a
router to that separate subnet as well.
By the way WDS images a computer with XP in about 7 minutes so you
were right about that. I also set up Gimagex on a CD which is very
handy when there is no PXE boot on computers.
domain
controller to a 2003 SBS server?
I remember once trying to make a 2003 server a second domain
controller to sbs 2003 and it made the sbs unresponsive.
The problem is for some reason WDS won't work on the 2008 server as a
member server, even though it should be
able to use the SBS 2003 server as the domain controller. At least I
think that is the problem. So if I make the 2008 server
a second domain controller and put WDS back on it then perhaps I can
use the multicasting functions on it.
Maybe Dusko remembers when the second domain controller was not
possible as I seem to recall.
