Re: Cannot add mirror in w2k3 SE

Both disks are dynamic and exactly of same size. The first one has two
partitions: "c:(system) and "f:(data) ". The second disk is unpartitioned.
When I try to add the mirror of the partition "f:(data) there is not problem,
however, when I try to add the mirror of the partition of system "c:(system)
the option "Add mirror" appears grayed out.
Why?
Newly thanks.

OK, the next question is whether there is sufficient unpartitioned space on
the second disk. You need at least as much as on your system partition.

My two disks are both dynamic ones. Why can I make the mirror in the data
partition and cannot in the system partition?
Again thank you.

i've w2k3 Standard Edition with two disks and and two partitions,
C:(system)
and F:(Data).I want to make a mirror among my two disk but...for the
F:(Data)
partition no problem but for the C:(system) partition the option "Add
Mirror"
is grayed out.Why?
Many thanks in advance.

AFAIR, under Win2003 you can only establish mirrors for dynamic disks.

Before going ahead with the mirror, I suggest you consider how effective
a
mirror would be. These days, disks are very reliable and catastrophic
failures are rare. Here are the most frequent problems:
- Registry issues.
- Driver problems.
- File system corruption.
- User error.
Mirroring a disk offers no protection against any of the above problems.
A
effective method to fully protect a Windows installation goes like this:
1. Keep all user files away from the system disk.
2. Create an image of the system partition at regular intervals, e.g.
once
every two months. Store it on an external disk.
3. Back up the System State daily.
3. Test the image once or twice a year.
