Hello ray,
For licensing call MS support to get the correct information or your reseller.
Best regards

Hi,
Will try and put this so it makes as much sense as possible (and I
will probably fail)
I am a BI / Cognos / SQL server consultant and I tend to leave the
licencing to the client I am working for..but should really understand
a bit more .
When we implement Cognos we tend to go through the following
1 Server (windows 2003 std or Enterprise) for the application (Cognos
all components ) , accessed via IIS ..will sometimes install free
version of SQL server for the content database (as it is below 2 gig)
1 Server (windows 2003 std or enterprise) for the data warehouse,
normally Sql server 2005 standard or Enterprise..
Access to the Cognos application is controlled via linking into the
clients AD or other LDAP
When the user logs into the web app (via IE) they will normally have
to login (and this gets authenticated via LDAP / AD) .
The cognos app is set to use a windows domain account and this gets
used to query the MSSQL content database.
If the reports require Data from the Warehouse again this is done via
the Service account.
soooo
1) as the users are accessing via IIS and authenticating against a DC
(Mostly) does this need additional CALS
2) Do we need SQL server CALS also or just a CAL for the cognos
machine.
3) For the clients that are using another LDAP does this affect CALS
4) any other tips..normally i tell the client to ring Microsoft
Licence
Advisor.
Regards
.
