Server 2003 as a DC - Active Directory dies???

I've got a Server 2003 Domain Controller (Only one in the domain) of which
it's like Active Directory mainly dies. Suddenly. Without warning.

When this happens, here's what I observe:
1) The logon box (either local or RDP, doesn't matter) is gone. Nothing to
CTL+ALT+DEL on, nothing. Just the gray Secure Desktop background.
2) Anything that requires Windows authentication (Shares, Outlook, Programs,
etc) starts failing.
3) Anything that uses stand-alone authentication (I've got third-party chat
software that uses its own database) continues to function.

So again, it's almost like Active Directory takes a dive.

This happens very inconsistently (Enough so I think calling Microsoft
Support on this would be a waste, because I cannot reproduce it at any time).
I've gone three weeks with no issues, and then like today, it happened two
times within 4 hours.

Only solution is to hard reset the server, which I hate to do.

Event Viewer has NOTHING in it. All of a sudden you just start seeing
"Authentication Failed" messages popping up from various apps, but nothing
consistent or nothing to suggest what's going on.

Any ideas?
