RE: Setting client printing defaults for network printer

Incidentally, I have tested installing the exact same printer on another
server with Windows Server 2003 R2 (not Storage Server, or 64 bit), and
setting the printing defaults works without any problems.
Is this a storage server issue, or a 64 bit being connected to by 32 bit
clients issue?
Thanks

Hi,.
I have an x64 Windows Storage Server 2003 server with a few shared printer
queues.
Using the latest manufacturer's PCL6 drivers, the printers are setup to
print to a standard TCP/IP port and I have configured client preferences
using the printing defaults on the Advanced tab of the printer properties.
However, none of these defaults are applying to the printers when installed
on client computers.
All printers have been configured to duplex by default to save paper, and
the colour printers have been configured to B&W by default so users don't
accidentally print a full colour document, but these settings haven't applied
when the printer is installed on the client.
All clients are Windows XP SP2. The print server has been updated with
correct manufacturer's drivers for the client computers and they install
correctly.
I have tried deleting the printer connection on the client computer and
deleting drivers to force redownloading the correct version from the server,
but this has had no effect.
Apart from this the print queues are working perfectly fine. So what would
be the reason for the printing defaults not downloading to the clients?
Are there any logs I can check to see what is actually happening when the
printer is installed?
Many Thanks
Chris
