Re: .net 3.5 family update and time sync issues

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Well, the hotfix file is newer, so I applied it, but not change. I've
already tried w32tm /resync /rediscover and it works, but after a reboot the
system I still get the 1097 and 1030 errors. It just started happening after
Windows Updates. Everything is part of the domain and syncs time with a
domain server so NTP is handled by the domain.

I did update one of my domain controllers with the .Net update (it was the
only update missing) and now it's getting the same 1030 and 1097 errors.

I was able to get my application working after a reboot by adding a service
dependency (so the service that was crashing is forced to wait), so it's
stable for now, but the errors are still present.

So I've applied the high priority update "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86" to some
servers and it seems to be causing issues with time sync.

Checking the eventvwr I see that the time is off by several hours after a
system reboot, but then resyncs after a few seconds. The brief amount of
out-of-sync time is causing strange issues with servers...

Specifically I'm getting Event IDs 1097 "Windows cannot find the machine
account, The clocks on the client and server machines are skewed." and 1030
"Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event
log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that
describes the reason for this."

Is anyone else experiencing this? It sure seems like the .Net update is
causing problems.

I didn't see this issue on my machines. See if applying
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951531 helps any. Double check the
time sync settings or Internet time. Who's providing NTP to the
affected machine(s)?
