Hello.
As it looks like i forgot to add a meaningful subject yesterday, and since i
can't find a button to edit the original post, i'd like to appologize first
to those who read this boards frequently and get confused by such a subject
without any information.
Second: since you mentioned the VSS feature as the solution for my issue, i
once again read up some details of VSS - and honestly, even though it's a
really cool feature for most situations, it just looks a bit too
sophisticated for the environment i'm working with right now.
As far as i understood it, VSS acts pretty much like a versioning system,
which makes scheduled snapshots. This way only visible changes at point of
time "B" compared to the earlier point of time "A" get tracked/versioned,
while the workflow between "A" and "B" itself is untracked.
And here lies my issue: since i'm faced with an environment where
version-issues for files can be excluded (because the users of the network
use different files), a continuous workflow oriented method for data-recovery
(like a recycle bin) seems more approriate, secure and convenient to use, no?
I have heard of 3rd party tools which claim to supply a similiar
functionality, but actually i considered this topic to be basic enough to be
covered as a base function of the operating system.
Kind regards, Chris

Hello Christian,.
No, you can not configure i that way, but VSS would be exactly your option.
Especially in a small network.

Good day ladies and gentlemen.
For educational purposes I'm toying around with a MS Windows Server
2008 configuration. Lately the following question came up:
Is it possible to configure the way Windows Server 2008 handles
"delete"-commands for files and folders in a specified (shared)
folder?
For example to move the selected file(s)/folder(s) to a specified
folder -
I'd imagine that this way one could more or less provide a pseudo
trash
folder for network drive?
This is interesting for me, as I'm looking for an easy way to recover
items which were deleted by error in a small network (<5 computers).
Actually I already read up a bit about the shadow copy feature which
was introduced with server 2003, but that seems to me more appropriate
for a larger/more professional environment.
I'd be more than thankful for any informations or hints on this topic.
Kind regards, Chris
