I am running win2k3 with 2 NICs. I have a Comcast modem connected to
the internet. My problem is that the connection to the LAN cannot get
any private addressing. It is just frozen on Acquiring Network
Address. I have unistalled and the installed DHCP, put a new NIC, new
switch, new cable, but LAN just cannot get any addresses. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hello John,

You've already heard some of the issues and nuances about DHCP and multihomed servers from Phillip and KJ.

What I am curious about is your network's configuration. Can you respond to the following questions? This will help to better understand what you have running and where the issue may lie.

1. An unedited "ipconfig /all" from the server
2. In Network and Connections, Advanced Menu, click on the Advanced selection in the menu. Let us know which NIC is at the top of the list.
3. Does this server host DNS?
4. Is this server a domain controller?
5. Can you provide the DHCP scope (IP range you configured DHCP to give out), along with the subnet mask, and any Scope Options you've configured (such as Option 003 for the router address, Option 006 for the DNS servers list, and any other options you may have configured).
6. Curious, why are there two NICs in the server? Is the "outside" NIC connected to the Comcast modem, and the inside to the internal LAN?

Would you say your network looks something like the pic in the following link?

You've also stated something is up with the DHCP Client service. Just an FYI, despite its name, the DHCP Client service is actually the DNS registration and resolver caching service. If this is disabled, a machine cannot register into DNS, nor will it cache recent DNS lookups.

Are there any services that may have been disabled, more than likely due to security concerns? (Post the result of a "net start" output, please).

Thank you,
