Tim,
Sorry not to reply sooner. I have been tied up with another project and did actually manage to get this one resolved by going the long way around it.
I confirmed that the media was ok, but still couldn't get it to install. So, I installed Sever 2003 on the machine and then did an upgrade and that worked. It was kind of a backwards solution to the problem, but I needed to get this done, so I tried anything I could think of.
Now, unfortunately, it looks like I am going to have to set the machine up all over again, because I screwed up the disk partitioning.
I wonder if you know whether I will be able to re-install 2008 on this machine (same physical machine and drives, but with an upgraded CPU), using my Charity Open License key (it's a KMS key, if that matters). We wouldn't want to have to buy another license, but if I don't repartition it, I will be wasting a lot of disk space with the way I have it set up now.
Happy Holidays to you,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thank you for the reply.
I understand that Windows Server 2008 cannot be installed on the virtual
machine either. Can you install Windows Server 2008 on a physical machine?
Please understand that usually this issue can be caused by corrupt disk if
this error occurs when installing Windows Server 2008 on a physical
machine. Now I would like to confirm if you can use this disk to install
Windows Server 2008 on other computers or use another disk to install
Windows Server 2008 on this computer successfully.
If you can use another disk to install Windows Server 2008 on this
computer, I am afraid the culprit is the corrupt disk.
If you can use this disk to install Windows Server 2008 on other computers,
I believe this disk is fine. In this case, I think Windows Server 2008 is
incompatible with the current hardware environment.
Please update your BIOS, unplug unnecessary hardware devices such as sound
card, video card and printer.
Do you use Raid Controller? If so, please temporally remove it to test the
result.
Hope it helps.
