Hello Danny
I see, but does that mean if the first domain controller goes down or is
brought down for any reason the user wont even notice and there is no
interruption of their work because they are automatically "switched" the the
second domain controller or if the first domain controller goes down the
second domain controller in the same domain have to be "promoted" or "brought
up" in some form or fashion and then users have to login all over again to
the second domain controller in order to be connected to that second domain
controller?

It would be a second DC in the same domain. Domain controllers in the same.
domain replicate user information between them.
Think of the second DC as a DC to "hold" the domain information if/when the
first goes down.

Hello Danny
Would the second DC that you are referring to be considered a "child
domain server"?
or would the second domain server you are referring to be defined as
another domain controller in the forest?

Make sure you have more than one DC in a domain BEFORE you loose one.

Hello
If a Windows 2003 Server that is a Domain Controller goes down and
it
has child domains in the forest, how can you setup another server to
become
the Domain Controller to replace the Domain Controller that went down
so
that
user can continue to login and keep working?
