HiMeinolf,

Once again thanks for the reply. I received an email from the IT dept
and my boss regarding sync and they seem to be blaming me for the time
it takes to sync.

I would like to know how i am able to test the network connections
both the Broadband and the router switches to see if they are running
at the correct speed.

Kind regards.

Hello Peter,

If your IT department is not helpful, i would go to there boss. It's
there work to get the network running, so that you can work without
problems. Even if the problems may be done by yourself, then they
have to show you the correct way. You can use tools like
xxcopy(freeware) to sync only the changes, but don't know if it works
in your setup/situation.

Hi Meinolf and SF,

Thanks very much for the information it is kindly appreciated. The
problem i have is that the IT department are NOT helpful and treat
me as if i am causing the problem hence the anxiety.

Why once the XP machine has syncronized a full sync does it need to
sync EVERYTHING again? Why does it only sync the files that have
been ammended? Also could it be a problem with the speed on either
the 800 or 2950 being at 10 instead of 100 mbps? Would there be a
way of myself finding out the bandwith used by my laptop whilst its
docked?

If you require any further information please let me know and i will
post details.

Regards.

Hello Peter,

The router is needed to connect to the other town. Normal switches
will not route traffic, except Layer 3 switches. But if you have so
many data to sync, you should talk to your system administrators.
You can have a low bandwith connection, driver problems on your
machine, the switch setup can be problem or the router. Shouldn't
be anything with the firewall, because you said, it works slowly
but it works. With the information you gave it is not easy to help
you. But the admins of your company should help you, to fix the
problem. That's there basics.

Hi All,

Please could someone help else ....

I have a desperate problem with my machine at work when i try to
syncronize with folders and files over the network. It can
Literally take all night and even a few hours during the day to
actually syncronize my PC to the Server connected at a different
site. This for me is now approaching desperation and i am
seriously considering quitting my job over it.

I have a windows XP machine which connects to a Cisco 2950 switch
which then connects to a Cisco 800 router - it passes a firewall
into the cloud back through the firewall into a F&P server in a
different town. I am unsure as to how many hops it passes but i
suspect the problem may be that either or both of the switches are
set to 10 mbps rather than 100.

i am unsure of why the Cisco 800 router is there. Can anyone
explain given the above information of what might be causing the
syncronize to take as long as it is. Just to explain further -
once i have syncronized all folders/files i only have to correct
some text on ONE FILE but still get the sync problem.

Any information on the above would be very useful. If anyone
requires any further information please let me know.

Kind Regards.
