Re: New Server in Company

Hello WORLDe,

The configuration was just a suggestion. You can also configure any RAID with the amount of disks SmartStart will offer you. Just try it out, that's the best on new machines you can not destroy anything. Also this Smartstart disk will let you preconfigure the serila number and and setup from one point. After that it will copy the disk and starts the install directly.

Will this also allow me to do the RAID 1 for the remaining drives?
I am installing a Progress Database server which uses the Progress 4GL
programming language and is very particular with the way the drives
are
configured.

Hello WORLDe,

With HP it is really easy, with every server you get a SartStart
disk. Start the server with it and open the Array configuration
utility. Here you can configure the server like also AllenM
describes. A mirrored drive RAID1+0 with 2 disks and the rest of the
disks as RAID 5. On the mirrored disk install the system and
applications at least on a 40 GB drive so you have space for the
future, if you maybe upgrade to server 2008 where at least 40GB is
recommended for system drive.

It is a HP ML350 Tower server.

Hello WORLDe,

If you specify vendor, type and model from the server would be
easier.

Hello,
I am ordering my first new server. I need to get Server 03 due to
the
application we are planning on running.
this is my first server config.
Due to the nature of the application, I had to order 8 hard
drives.
drive 0,1 = raid 1
drive 2, 3 = raid 1
drive 4,5 = raid 1
drive 6,7 = raid 1
Ihave never created a RAID config before. I have a raid card
ordered
with the server.
when and how is the best time to create the raid array and the
partitions on the drives?
when I connect all 8 drives, will the system ask me if i want to
create a raid?

.
