Re: Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail - neither for hotmail on Windows Server 2008?

I was testing out the rumor that Windows Server 2008 runs faster than
Vista - and so far without running any benchmarks - it does appear to run
signifcantly faster than Vista SP1 on the exact same hardware.

Once I have it fully configured I will run some benchmarks but at this point
it seems to be a significant upgrade in performance from Vista - comparable
to XP from what I can see but again I haven't run any benchmarks yet so I
can't say much for sure.

There are a lot of articles claiming it runs faster and I wanted to find out
for myself as there are some people who claime Vista runs as fast as XP but
anyone who actually has run benchmarks knows that to be rubbish so I thought
I'd see if there was any truth to Windows Server running as fast as XP and
from what I can tell this rumor is true.

Hello boe,

Windows mail is able to use the MS newsgroup for example. And as you are
realizing it is only hotmail. But why will you use a server operating
system for working with Office Applications or Mail or Internet only?
Server 2008 and Vista are shairng more or less the same code.

Best regards

Hello,

I typically check one of my hotmail accounts with outloook express
that I also use with newsgroups but in Win2k8 you use Windows Mail
instead of OE. When I start to set up my e-mail it tells me they don't
support it for http hotmail any more I should use Windows Live Mail -
I go to set it up but it says it doesn't run on Windows Server. I
realize there are other products I can use but I am curious if there
is a free MS product that can do what Outlook Express did?

I'm playing around with Windows Server 2008 x64 as a desktop - seems
to perform significantly better than Vista SP1 - not sure why but I've
read a lot of theories - but for me it seems to perform better.

Thanks
