Re: What needs to be transfered to new Domain Controller

I forgot to mention that this is one of our child domains, with 2 DCs running
and 3rd one is just setup.

I am using AD-int DNS. I know i need to re-setup DHCP and re-authoried by
parent DC.

Hello Rick,

Please describe first the roles your servers have now, DNS, DHCP, Exchange
etc.

At least you have to transfer/move the 5 FSMO roles to the 2003 machine,
make the 2003 server a Global catalog server, install if not done DNS and
DHCP, reconfigure the clients for using the new DNS/DC.

Maybe you have to think about copying files to the new one ( user profiles,
shared folders, home folders etc.)

Use Active Directory integrated zones for DNS, easier for replication and
configuration, if not done.

Transfer roles:

Export and import of DHCP database (if needed)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325473

Global catalog:
Open Active directory Sites and Services and then double-click sitename,
double-click Servers, click your domain controller, right-click NTDS Settings,
and then click Properties, on the General tab, click to select the Global
catalog check box (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=313994)

HI, all:

I setup a new (3rd) domain controller (win2003) in our network. I will
demote the previous 2 DCs.
What do I need to do before domoting the previous 2 DCs? Any tech
paper?
Thanks.
