Thank you!!!!
Yes, the /f created 2 error messages which pointed me to the HP All in 1
storage system mangement tool. that is in the start up, so I've left it
minmized... as long as I close it, the server restarts and shuts down
great!
thanks you so much!!!!!

Have you tried with the /f switch on shutdown.exe? This will slam the
door
on what process is hanging, but you may be able to read an event or see
some
type of error message when the box finally does come up. Another question
would be are you trying to shut it down via terminal services or are you
physically at the console?

It does nothing. I've tried the restart box that you get when updates
need a
restart... the box goes away but nothing happens. Same if I use
Start-->
shutdown or Start--> restart. I clidk it, the box just disappears -
nothing
happens.
I also tried doing a shutdown /r at a cmd line - there I get the little
count down warning screen that it will shutdown in 30 seconds. - but
then
again, the box disappears and nothing.

Ok, next question, when you ask for a reboot, what does it do?

sorry - should have mentioned that. No event log is generated at
any
restart
or shutdown attempt??? Only if I do a cold shutdown - then I get
the
"unexpected shutdownn" message.
Also, this is a 32 bit app.

Normal question - What is in the event log?

Help....
We have a storage server that is being preped for production and
it
will
NOT
shutdown or restart???? It is an HP storage works 600 - with MS
Storage
server 2003 loaded.
I haven't had much luck in finding anything - What I find points
to
Avast
virus protection - We use MaAffee- and I actaully have tried
disabling
that,
which did not make a difference. We have teamed nics - which we
have
unteamed... did not help.
I have all updates current, including SP2... I had to do cold
shutdowns to
apply these. To no avail.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks in advance for
your
time
and help!!!
Cindy
