Well this sounds suspicious or maybe the windows partition is too small in the first place? If there was no room for the page file then this may make some sense.
A snapshot of the Task Manager|Processes tab just after startup for later comparison may help.

In all honesty, I'm not sure what consumed all the disk space. I was away
from the machine itself and it was being very unresponsive over Remote
Desktop, so I just deleted a few unnecessary files and restarted it.
Considering the random nature of the fault a memory leak does seem likely.
Any further advice on how I could go about troubleshooting this?
