I have an office, and all our files run off the server. Recently, a
bunch of files were moved from the appropriate folder to a completely
different location. We restored a backup we had, and then we found
the original files. We have no idea how they were moved or who did it.
Assuming this was an accident, is there a way to password protect the
files on the server, so that before you move something you have to
confirm that it's okay?
If not, are there any ways to make sure that files don't get moved
around?
Password protected? No - NTFS security is how you control permissions, as
well as turning up auditing - and training users to be careful when they're
clicking & dragging.
