Re: can not start Windows Firewall

The location I meant was within your Network Connections window in the menu
at the top (File,Edit..etc) there is an Advanced, click on that and then
select Advanced Settings.

Im sorry, I have to run now, I will research this abit further as soon as I
can. In the meantime does anyone else here have a suggestion? :-)

Thank you for the reply

I think you meanNetwork Connections -> [My network connection] ->
Properties?
My connection is using Client for Microsoft Networks and Internet
Protocol(TCP/IP).

And I've already disabled the unused NIC. I checked that DHCP client is
running and hardware profile 1 is enabled.

Any ideas?

Hi Yifei Li,

You might want to check that your NIC (your main configured one) is bound
to
TCPIP & client for MS Networks and that its set to the top of the
Connections list (Network Connections->Advanced->Advanced Settings).
Also
if you are not using the other NIC at all make sure its disabled, and to
go
a step further, unbind it from TCPIP etc.

Also within your Services ->DHCP Client check that it is started and that
under the Log On tab your hardware profile (prob Profile 1) is Enabled.

Our server is running Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise x64 Edition.

Yesterday I happened to notice I can't open Windows Firewall anymore.

I tried to start Windows Firewall service, but got the following error:

Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS)
service on Local Computer
Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it's disabled
or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it

But I checked that service startup type is automatic and it has
hardware
profile enabled.

The server is running Mcafee Antivirus. But I don't think that's the
problem because we have another server with exactly the same OS and
antivirus software where the Windows Firewall/ICS service is working
fine.

I really really neeeeeeeeeeed help because I have to finish setting up
the
server before the new semester starts

BTW, the server has two NICs

thanks
