upgrade software to hardware Raid (mirrored)

hi,
i set up a server 2003 a few years ago, with 2 SATA drives configured
in RAID 1 using windows software raid. It's going fine now, but i
want to improve reliability by switching to hardware raid and
upgrading to new hard drives at the same time. the current drives are
40Gb 7200 rpm SATA drives, i want to upgrade to a pair of 74Gb 10k
SATA Raptors.
the server is mostly used during office hours monday-friday so that
gives me a time cushion if i start the upgrade late friday night.
i've read a lot of threads on this newsgroup and from what i've read
i'm assuming that i will need to backup the primary disk and restore
the image on to one of the new disks in the hardware config.
i'd really appreciate an experienced opinion on the best upgrade
path. here's what i have so far:
* break the mirror in windows
* power off
* backup the primary (boot) disk to a spare IDE drive (with some non-
windows backup software like Ghost or BootIt NG, i don't think windows
can do a full raw backup of itself?).
* install the new PCI to SATA raid controller
* attach one of the raptors to the controller
* restore the backup image to the Raptor, making sure that the
partition uses the full 74gb.
* Power off and attach the other Raptor
* remove the 2 old SATA drives
* boot into the RAID config in the bios (i suppose) and set up the
RAID 1 mirror on the new drives.
* reboot and hopefully windows will load
does this seem like a sound approach?
thanks in advance
tim
