Found the error number finally (REGDB_E_IIDNOTREG) - Interface not
registered. Looks like I really do have a corruption in my registry. I
examined the backup log and the registry hasn't changed since January, so
any previous backup is now long gone. Is there any way to figure out and
fix the corruption or am I looking and rebuilding box?

Long story short, I accidently deleted an admin account on a W2k3 DC and
used kb article 840001 to restore the user account. I had to use System
Restore to get the DC back into the old state as I only have two DC's and
the delete was on both. I backup nightly so I had a backup available.
During restore I got a message about a corrupt registry entry, but it
continued and said the restore was completed successfully. I successfully
ran the authoritative restore and replicated the account back out to the
other DC. All seemed well and went on my merry way.
This morning I noticed my web service wasn't running and when I tried to
start IISAdmin I got an error 2147746133 with a note to check event log
for details. I went to the event log but I couldn't check properties of
any entry. I then noticed that held true for all of MMC. I've tried to
search for some hint of whats wrong, but have come up empty.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
