Ok let me ask you this.
1. Could I boot back into windows Win2k3 R2 and use the backup utility in
Windows to backup everything to my data drive on the server. Then pull
the bad drive out put the new drive in and do a system restore from the
Windows CD?

*** In theory - yes. In practice - how will you run ntbackup.exe
*** without having an operating system? Maybe you could do it
*** with a Bart PE boot CD. I have never tried.

or

2. Could I boot back into windows Win2k3 R2 and use the backup utility in
Windows to backup everything to my data drive on the server. Then pull
the bad drive out put in the new drive and reload Win2k3. Once that is
done loading can I do a restore from that backup I placed on the data
drive?

*** Maybe. I tried this once and failed but perhaps I made
*** a mistake.

or

3. Is there a way to back up all the settings of this server and then put
the new drive in, reload the OS and then restore that configuration?

*** This is the method I described earlier in this thread.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

You could, if

a) Ghost is happy to deal with a server,
b) Ghost can deal with dynamic partitions (which I doubt)
c) Ghost does not freak out when encountering bad clusters (referring to
your original thread)

Could I just use Ghost to copy the partition to a different drive and
then restore the new drive with this copy?

We have a server with dynamic disks software mirror. The system
partition
only has 12GB, data partition is 160GB. Can we extend the system
partition
and re-use the free space on the data partition? Is there any program
that
would do it, a special version of Volume Manager, perhaps? We would
like to
do it without losing any data. Any recommendations - anyone?

I'm not aware of any such software. If this was my machine
then I would try this:
1. Connect the server disk as a slave disk to some other machine.
2. Connect a spare disk to that same machine.
3. Partition & format the spare disk. I would use basic partitions.
4. Use xcopy.exe or robocopy.exe to copy the server disk
to the spare disk, making sure to include hidden files and
ACLs.
5. Connect the spare disk only to the server to see if it works.

This is a risk-free process since you're not modifying the
original disk in any way.
