RE: Windows cannot access the specified device.

Hello,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

This similar issue may be caused by: A policy is in place to restrict
Internet Explorer browsing to secure zones: Users configurations\Windows
Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenace\Security - Security Zones & Rating
The restriction is defined to exclude all network UNC paths in the local
intranet zone.

A resultant set of policies will indicate the following setting is
disabled: Include all network paths (UNC)

NOTE: The above setting may not be viewable from the group policy editor.
The reason is because the Windows 2003 Server component called "Internet
Explorer Security Configurations" is installed. This can be removed via
Add/Remove Windows Components in control panel.

Resolution:
=========
Reconfigure the policy or remove the component "Internet Explorer Security
Configurations".

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao

| I brought up a new server running Windows 2003 Server with SP2. When I
| attempt to launch programs I get:
|
| Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not
have
| the appropriate permissions to access the item.
|
| I'm logged in as a domain admin and the file persmissions show full
control.
|
| What do I need to fix to make this go away?
|
| Thanks...
