No, no Novell client.
This is also the first time it has ever happened (nothing new has been
installed and no config changes have been made in months - it's on an
isolated network). Rebooting is an option at some point, but I was
hoping to find a reason the issue occurred.
Thanks!

Do you have Novell client installed on it?
You should RDP to the server and use MSCONFIG to disable all the 3rd party
services and application running on this box. It requires a reboot.
Check still you don't see the login window or not.

I have a Windows 2003 Server, R2 Standard edition, that I went to log
into the other day, hit ctrl-alt-delete and waited....and
waited....and days later am still waiting for the actual login screen
to display. The mouse works, the keyboard works. I can get to the
server via another one in the domain and everything appears to be
running normally, the server is up and responding, but it's sitting
there with a screen background and no login prompt. I've tried ctrl-
alt-delete again, nothing, tried alt-tab, nothing, tried typing in the
user name and password and hitting enter, nothing. Any ideas at all?
