IPP printer sharing on Server 2003 R2

Hello all,
My customers have a need to print from their legacy systems to various
IPP printers. Since IPP printing is a "recent" invention these systems
are incapable of printing directly to IPP printers but can print to
Windows shared printers. The obvious solution would seem to be to
install the IPP printer on the Windows server (the server in question
is running 2003 R2) and then share that printer but, as I'm sure many
of you know (and now I do) sharing of IPP printers is not supported.
Or is it? I would be most interested to hear advice from anyone more
knowledgeable than me on this topic, and be warned that this probably
includes 75% of the readers of the group.
Each IPP printer is configured to use SSL for communication with the
Windows server. So I should think that security concerns would not be
the limiting factor. In fact, I typically set-up this very
configuration using Linux servers or Xserves for print services via
CUPS and samba but many customers are reluctant to diversify otherwise
(relatively) homogeneous IT environments.
Thanks for your time,
Bill
