Hi Dan,
we have exactly the same problem with one of our servers (HP DL 380 G5) out of around 15 after installing W2K3 SP2.
The server has been installed from an fresh HP OEM CD (2003 R2 Std.) media only 3 months ago and was running without any problem.
After SP2 sometimes RDP works, sometimes it doesn't. RDP Client connect button gets disabled and enabled again, no message and no error logged. Only HP Mgmt Software und McAfee is installed, no other 3rd party software.
I can't open an E-Mail case with MS due to the fact that it's a german W2K3 version and I'm not willing to spend 300,- EUR for an regular call on this.
Already tried to disable RSS, Offline TCP, Teaming, reset rdp connection settings and so on with no effect.
You are not alone....

They where both fresh installs from Microsoft MSDN media. And upgraded to SP2 using SP2 install files that I have use to install on over 15 other servers. Out of 20 only 2 are doing this. Weird as soon as I reboot them it works again but then stops a couple hours later. I'll try the Network Monitor and let you know..

Hi Dan,
Suggest you download the new (free) Network Monitor 3.0 from MS. Install it, and take a look at the RDP traffic on the wire. This is not a solution but will help you "see" what is going on. RDP works fine for all my SP2 systems including some over VPN's & LH Beta 3.
As I mentioned recently somwhere - do you have any weird screen savers on the remote machines? Are they OEM CD builds? Or builds from your "build team" - possibly they have a bug in their build image?
Good luck,

working. One is a virtual server running 2003 Standard Edition with SP2 and
one is 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition with SP2 on an HP DL320. The RDP part is
totally hit and miss it works one day for a but then stops. Totally random
nothing reported in the event logs of the servers about an RDP problem. Is
there a problem with SP2?
