Re: SMTP email fails at 24 and 54

Dear Marc,

If this happens at specific times you can simply connect remote to your web
server (or stand in front of it its near you) and connect to the SMTP server
from a command prompt.

Open a command prompt and type in c:\>telnet your.mailhost.com 25 and hit
enter at the 24 or 54 minute times.

Compare the response time between normal and the problem times. This will
isolate it as your problem OR the far end SMTP server problem.

I suspect it will be the far end upstream server. Call the server
administrator and ask if you can have a full time relay - not just part
time. ;-)

I checked with the vendor of the device that relays the email and there are
no problems there. This must be something on the server.

Hi Marc,

Yes, you upstream SMTP host seems to be slow to respond at those times.
Perhaps check with the server administrator.
Must be Linux or UNIX ;-) Only joking... :-)

We are having a strange problem where user connected to our website who
try
to send email have it fail. The failures are consistantly at 24
minutes
or
54 minutes after the hour and never at any other time. Here is part of
the
error message:

SOURCE: System.Web
ERROR: Could not access 'CDO.Message' object.
SOURCE2: mscorlib
ERROR2: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
SOURCE3: CDO.Message.1
ERROR3: The transport failed to connect to the server.
STACKTRACE:
at System.Web.Mail.LateBoundAccessHelper.CallMethod(Object obj, String
methodName, Object[] args)
at System.Web.Mail.CdoSysHelper.Send(MailMessage message)
at System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.Send(MailMessage message)

Anyone have an idea what could be happening at 24 and 54 minutes?
