Hi,

I believe that you can use robocopy to transfer the permissions from one directory to a new directory.

In your case, use robocopy to copy from the master template (or folder) to your desired location.

I have a question. I have set up a shared directory on computers and
have setup a template folder with subfolders pertaining to groups and
so on. Basically trying to organize things better but multiple areas
need to see certain information but not be able to write to it and
others need certain information and not be able to write to other
groups.

Can't really separate them out more.

There is a document control group that has full permissions to
everything and when a new group comes along and they need to create a
new set of folders we were hoping to copy the template that has been
setup and just paste and rename the master folder but keep all the sub
folders and the security information that was set, but this doesn't
work.

We are using windows 2003 domain security on a file server with xp
clients. Can someone tell me what we are doing wrong. Even if i use
the administrator account to copy and paste the permissions just get
reset to the parent folder even though the folder we are copying
doesn't have the box checked to allow propagation from the parent.

HELP - What am I missing.
